Manufacturer: American antique

This heavy glass tear bottle measures approximately 6 3/4 inches in length and is all in fine original condition. A desirable item for the Victorian era mourning collector, the tear bottle was an especially popular personal memento among the ladies of the Civil War South, this one even retains its period wax seal. An example may be found in the Museum of the Confederacy collection in Richmond, Virginia. This example will make an attractive companion piece with any quality Civil War ladies grouping. note to the collector: With the exception of the period wax seal at the mouth, there is virtually no difference between the period perfume bottle with its ground glass stopper and tear bottles found in museums and the better private mourning collections. We believe it is a good bet that tear bottles are in reality empty perfume bottles pressed into service as mourning tear receptacles to be maintained as a cherished remembrance. Don't forget to give our search feature a try for special wants. A simple key word in lower case works best.
