Manufacturer: U. S. Government Issue
All complete and in unused condition but with good evidence of age and originality the Mod. 1885 watering bit and reins were carried in the trooper’s saddlebags until needed at which time the curb bit and bridle were removed, leaving the halter in place and the watering bit was snapped to both halter squares and the jointed steel mouth piece was inserted. The black leather reins are made in two pieces, sewed together at the center, with the ends sewed to the bit. The reins are 7/8 of an inch wide and 10 ft. long. Bit remains untouched and as found showing a considerable amount of the old bright arsenal blue and will clean to excellent plus with a touch of WD-40 and a knowing hand. The reins are solid with no cracks or weak spots and are soft and pliable with a nice original finish. Like the bit the reins are untouched and will restore to excellent plus with application of a proper leather dressing. Complete and untouched with the reins tied with jute as issued, we would oil the bit and leave the reins as is. . As with all direct sales, we are pleased to offer a no questions asked three day inspection with refund of the purchase price upon return as purchased!
