A wonderful early traveling utility this lap soldered traveling lamp is photographed here with a U.S. quarter for size comparison. A handy utility for the earlier to mid 19th century camped soldier or frontiersman traveler, this little lamp was intended for use with lantern or cola oil with a braided cotton wick but would, in a pinch, provide light with make-do material such as rendered animal fat and a bit of twisted cloth. The tinned sheet iron base is shaped to a point so as to secure the lamp (see illustration) . This all original vintage lighting device remains in fine untouched and unused condition after decades of attic storage. A neat personal item of special interest to the lighting device collector. please note: ALL ITEMS ARE CURRENT & AVAILABLE UNLESS MARKED SOLD!! Thanks for visiting our catalog!!
