Manufacturer: American antique

This as new and un issued G. A. R. Fair Season Ticket with stub measures approximately 5 1/8 X 2 5/8 inches and comes with it’s companion flyer identifying the Post and GRAND FAIR location as,David A. Russell Post No. 78 Dept. of Mass. G. A. R –at- village Hall South Abington, Jan. 19, 20, & 21, 1886. It seems that the entrepreneurial Yankees of Post 78 were promoting season ticket sales ($1.00 each) by offering a multi prize lottery to holders of their Grand Fair season tickets with a list of no fewer than one-hundred prizes listed in the paper flyer. The list of prizes offers an interesting perspective into post Civil War 19th century life with the offering of such period treasures as a Sleigh, Cake Basket, Horse Harness, Pair of Gent’s Boots, 1Cord of Wood, 1 Suit of Clothes to order, Lady’s Gold Watch, Parlor Stove, 1 Barrel of Flower, Hanging Parlor Lamp, Pickle Jar, Camp Chair, Gent’s Gold Watch, Cradle, Carving Knife, Silver Watch, Ham, Smoking Set, Mantle Clock, Gent’s Working Set (Pick Axe, Shovel, Hoe), Lady’s Work Basket, Whip, Meerschaum Pipe, Wolf Skin Robe etc. with other prizes to include several cash prizes ranging in value from a single $500.00 prize, one for $50.00 and others down to several $1.00 awards.
