Manufacturer: Staffordshire

This vintage marked Staffordshire historical plate in dark blue measures 10 inches and commemorates the Portland, Maine birthplace of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The plate remains in fine condition with no chips or cracks, a nice bright original glaze and is boldly marked by Rowland & Marsellus and T. F. Foss & Sons of Portland. Known by local historians to have been a personal friend of Civil War hero Joshua Chamberlain, Longfellow is better known to history as the best loved American poet of the 19th Century. This wonderful 1 inch deep rolled rim plate offers a center image of Longfellow's Early Home in Portland, Maine with six scenes around the rim. They are Longfellow's Birthplace, a bust image of Longfellow, Portland Head-Light, Deering's Woods, Stephen Longfellow, the Poet's Father, and the Portland Longfellow Monument. A wonderful decretive piece with no problems. please note: ALL ITEMS ARE CURRENT & AVAILABLE UNLESS MARKED SOLD!!
