This sharpening steel is a classic accoutrement of the American West movement and will fit well as a companion with representative pieces of the mid to late 19th century railroad expansion and buffalo hunting activity that has become synonymous with the “Wild West”. Measuring nearly 19” in over all length this steel is fitted with an eye appealing hand crafted and well worn hardwood grip with heavy cast in pewter non-slip design. Most importantly to the cutlery and American West collector are the bold KEEN KUTTER maker marks deeply set in the shaft of the steel. Founded in St. Louis in 1868, the E. C. Simmons Hardware Co. grew into one of the classic suppliers supporting Western expansion. The “KEEN KUTTER” nomenclature used by founder Simmons remains well known today and is a base in the cutlery collecting field with early examples such as this commanding special interest. please note: ALL ITEMS ARE CURRENT & AVAILABLE UNLESS MARKED SOLD!!.
