An extra nice cabinet photo of Civil War hero Col. James M. Brown as commander of the 100th New York Volunteer Infantry. This thirty-eight year old officer was killed in action while leading his troops on the first day's action at the Battle of Fair Oaks, Virginia. Though his body was never recovered the gallant young Colonel would be remembered by his comrades as they named New York's Grand Army of the Republic Post # 15 after there fallen Colonel. This cabinet photo (4 3/8" X 6 ½") was purchased from a descendant and was originally owned by the widow of Col. Brown who was known as the "Mother of the 100th New. York Infantry". The widow Brown gave these images out at veteran reunions. This example is in fine as new condition and is in it's original glassine envelope. It bears the backmark of Jamestown, New York photographer J. Robert Moore. please note: ALL ITEMS ARE CURRENT & AVAILABLE UNLESS MARKED SOLD!!.
