A neat little display item for the purpose of marking personal things has been a longtime custom of the military man. The attractive original label proclaims the Clark’s Indelible Pencil is for “marking linen, cotton, silk, leather & toothbrushes,” (among other personal items) and was patented in 1859 with renewals issued in 1866 and 1867. Directions for use are included on the label and the maker’s Massachusetts address is given. Though the 1866 and 1867 dates appearing after the initial patent date of 1859 place this example post Civil War the marker remained unchanged through this period thus will serve as a nice all original example to demonstrate just one of the several Civil War era commercial preparations for marking personal items. In fine all original and unused condition. please note: ALL ITEMS ARE CURRENT & AVAILABLE UNLESS MARKED SOLD!!. If you are new to our catalog and wish additional information or just to learn who we are, please check out our home page. Thanks for visiting our catalog!!
